This might be the last time i get to interview mister Nicke Borg of Backyard Babies: back in November 2009 he announced the band would go on an undefinite hiatus after completing the 2010 tour, in support of the amazing compilation Them XX, on which the 20-year career of the band is summed up in 3 cd and 1 dvd.Nicke opened up during our telephone conversation, and it was moving to hear him talking about his life, his band, his past and future. What does "Them XX" mean to you?
Does it feel strange, to think that you have spent more than half your life in a band, and only one band?
The common place to say about bands, is that they are like a marriage. did you feel like you were being married to the other bandmembers? You have been very faithful, never going with other bands, not even for one night stands!
Another commonplace is that guys in a rock band never grow up, they always stay like teenagers... do you feel you've grown up with the band and in the band?
How was it, to see yourself so young and so different through the years, on the "Them XX" dvd documentary?
And how was it, to revisit and select some songs off your whole discography?
In the update to the documentary, there's a lot of brand new footage shot at the Gods Of Metal festival in Italy in June 2009... do you have any good memories of it?
Ok now, that was all the past, what is the future holding for you, along with the 20th anniversary tour?
And, lots of people are asking themselves, what is Dregen gonna do without the Babies (even if it's for a little while!). He lives in the rock and roll life!
